Old Testament
1 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
1 ΚΑΙ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρός με λέγων·
2 “Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, ‘Hear the word of the LORD!’ ”
2 υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, προφήτευσον ἐπὶ τοὺς προφήτας τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ προφητεύσεις καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτούς· ἀκούσατε λόγον Κυρίου.
3 Thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!
3 τάδε λέγει Κύριος· οὐαὶ τοῖς προφητεύουσιν ἀπὸ καρδίας αὐτῶν καὶ τὸ καθόλου μὴ βλέπουσιν.
4 O Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts.
4 ὡς ἀλώπεκες ἐν ταῖς ἐρήμοις, οἱ προφῆταί σου Ἰσραήλ.
5 You have not gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in battle on the day of the LORD.
5 οὐκ ἔστησαν ἐν στερεώματι καὶ συνήγαγον ποίμνια ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ· οὐκ ἀνέστησαν οἱ λέγοντες· ἐν ἡμέρᾳ Κυρίου·
6 They have envisioned futility and false divination, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD!’ But the LORD has not sent them; yet they hope that the word may be confirmed.
6 βλέποντες ψευδῆ, μαντευόμενοι μάταια, οἱ λέγοντες· λέγει Κύριος, καὶ Κύριος οὐκ ἀπέσταλκεν αὐτούς, καὶ ἤρξαντο τοῦ ἀναστῆσαι λόγον.
7 Have you not seen a futile vision, and have you not spoken false divination? You say, ‘The LORD says,’ but I have not spoken.”
7 οὐχὶ ὅρασιν ψευδῆ ἑωράκατε καὶ μαντείας ματαίας εἰρήκατε;
8 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Because you have spoken nonsense and envisioned lies, therefore I am indeed against you,” says the Lord GOD.
8 διὰ τοῦτο εἰπόν· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· ἀνθ᾿ ὧν οἱ λόγοι ὑμῶν ψευδεῖς καὶ αἱ μαντεῖαι ὑμῶν μάταιαι, διὰ τοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς, λέγει Κύριος,
9 “My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and who divine lies; they shall not be in the assembly of My people, nor be written in the record of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
9 καὶ ἐκτενῶ τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ τοὺς προφήτας τοὺς ὁρῶντας ψευδῆ καὶ τοὺς ἀποφθεγγομένους μάταια· ἐν παιδείᾳ τοῦ λαοῦ μου οὐκ ἔσονται, οὐδὲ ἐν γραφῇ οἴκου Ἰσραὴλ οὐ γραφήσονται καὶ εἰς τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ οὐκ εἰσελεύσονται· καὶ γνώσονται διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος·
10 “Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace—and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar—
10 ἀνθ᾿ ὧν ἐπλάνησαν τὸν λαόν μου λέγοντες· εἰρήνη εἰρήνη, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν εἰρήνη, καὶ οὗτος οἰκοδομεῖ τοῖχον, καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀλείφουσιν αὐτόν, εἰ πεσεῖται,
11 say to those who plaster it with untempered mortar, that it will fall. There will be flooding rain, and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear it down.
11 εἰπὸν πρὸς τοὺς ἀλείφοντας· πεσεῖται, καὶ ἔσται ὑετὸς κατακλύζων, καὶ δώσω λίθους πετροβόλους εἰς τοὺς ἐνδέσμους αὐτῶν, καὶ πεσοῦνται, καὶ πνεῦμα ἐξαῖρον, καὶ ραγήσεται.
12 Surely, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the mortar with which you plastered it?’ ”
12 καὶ ἰδοὺ πέπτωκεν ὁ τοῖχος, καὶ οὐκ ἐροῦσι πρὸς ὑμᾶς· ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ ἀλοιφὴ ὑμῶν, ἣν ἠλείψατε;
13 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it.
13 διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος· καὶ ρήξω πνοὴν ἐξαίρουσαν μετὰ θυμοῦ, καὶ ὑετὸς κατακλύζων ἐν ὀργῇ μου ἔσται, καὶ τοὺς λίθους τοὺς πετροβόλους ἐν θυμῷ ἐπάξω εἰς συντέλειαν
14 So I will break down the wall you have plastered with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be uncovered; it will fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.
14 καὶ κατασκάψω τὸν τοῖχον, ὃν ἠλείψατε, καὶ πεσεῖται· καὶ θήσω αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ ἀποκαλυφθήσεται τὰ θεμέλια αὐτοῦ, καὶ πεσεῖται, καὶ συντελεσθήσεσθε μετ᾿ ἐλέγχων· καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.
15 “Thus will I accomplish My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it with untempered mortar; and I will say to you, ‘The wall is no more, nor those who plastered it,
15 καὶ συντελέσω τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπὶ τὸν τοῖχον καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀλείφοντας αὐτόν, καὶ πεσεῖται. καὶ εἶπα πρὸς ὑμᾶς· οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ τοῖχος οὐδὲ οἱ ἀλείφοντες αὐτὸν
16 that is, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace,’ ” says the Lord GOD.
16 προφῆται τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ οἱ προφητεύοντες ἐπὶ Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ οἱ ὁρῶντες αὐτῇ εἰρήνην, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν εἰρήνη, λέγει Κύριος. ~
17 “Likewise, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart; prophesy against them,
17 Καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, στήρισον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἐπὶ τὰς θυγατέρας τοῦ λαοῦ σου τὰς προφητευούσας ἀπὸ καρδίας αὐτῶν καὶ προφήτευσον ἐπ᾿ αὐτὰς
18 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the women who sew magic charms on their sleeves and make veils for the heads of people of every height to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people, and keep yourselves alive?
18 καὶ ἐρεῖς· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· οὐαὶ ταῖς συρραπτούσαις προσκεφάλαια ὑπὸ πάντα ἀγκῶνα χειρὸς καὶ ποιούσαις ἐπιβόλαια ἐπὶ πᾶσαν κεφαλὴν πάσης ἡλικίας τοῦ διαστρέφειν ψυχάς· αἱ ψυχαὶ διεστράφησαν τοῦ λαοῦ μου, καὶ ψυχὰς περιεποιοῦντο.
19 And will you profane Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, killing people who should not die, and keeping people alive who should not live, by your lying to My people who listen to lies?”
19 καὶ ἐβεβήλουν με πρὸς τὸν λαόν μου ἕνεκεν δρακὸς κριθῶν καὶ ἕνεκεν κλασμάτων ἄρτων τοῦ ἀποκτεῖναι ψυχάς, ἃς οὐκ ἔδει ἀποθανεῖν, καὶ τοῦ περιποιήσασθαι ψυχάς, ἃς οὐκ ἔδει ζῆσαι, ἐν τῷ ἀποφθέγγεσθαι ὑμᾶς λαῷ εἰσακούοντι μάταια ἀποφθέγματα.
20 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against your magic charms by which you hunt souls there like birds. I will tear them from your arms, and let the souls go, the souls you hunt like birds.
20 διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος Κύριος· ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπὶ τὰ προσκεφάλαια ὑμῶν, ἐφ᾿ ἃ ὑμεῖς ἐκεῖ συστρέφετε ψυχάς, καὶ διαρρήξω αὐτὰ ἀπὸ τῶν βραχιόνων ὑμῶν καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ τὰς ψυχάς, ἃς ὑμεῖς ἐκστρέφετε τὰς ψυχὰς αὐτῶν, εἰς διασκορπισμόν·
21 I will also tear off your veils and deliver My people out of your hand, and they shall no longer be as prey in your hand. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.
21 καὶ διαρρήξω τὰ ἐπιβόλαια ὑμῶν καὶ ρύσομαι τὸν λαόν μου ἐκ χειρὸς ὑμῶν, καὶ οὐκέτι ἔσονται ἐν χερσὶν ὑμῶν εἰς συστροφήν· καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.
22 “Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and you have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life.
22 ἀνθ᾿ ὧν διεστρέφετε καρδίαν δικαίου ἀδίκως, καὶ ἐγὼ οὐ διέστρεφον αὐτόν, καὶ τοῦ κατισχῦσαι χεῖρας ἀνόμου τὸ καθόλου μὴ ἀποστρέψαι ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ τῆς πονηρᾶς καὶ ζῆσαι αὐτόν,
23 Therefore you shall no longer envision futility nor practice divination; for I will deliver My people out of your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.” ’ ”
23 διὰ τοῦτο ψευδῆ οὐ μὴ ἴδητε καὶ μαντείας οὐ μὴ μαντεύσησθε ἔτι, καὶ ρύσομαι τὸν λαόν μου ἐκ χειρὸς ὑμῶν· καὶ γνώσεσθε ὅτι ἐγὼ Κύριος.
