1 Now when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled from the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.
1 ΚΑΙ ἦλθε Ροβοὰμ εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐξεκκλησίασε τὸν Ἰούδαν καὶ Βενιαμὶν ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδας νεανίσκων ποιούντων πόλεμον, καὶ ἐπολέμει πρὸς Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ Ροβοάμ.
2 But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
2 καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρὸς Σαμαίαν ἄνθρωπον τοῦ Θεοῦ λέγων·
3 “Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
3 εἰπὸν πρὸς Ροβοὰμ τὸν τοῦ Σαλωμὼν καὶ πάντα Ἰούδαν καὶ Βενιαμὶν λέγων·
4 ‘Thus says the LORD: “You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.” ’ ” Therefore they obeyed the words of the LORD, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam.
4 τάδε λέγει Κύριος· οὐκ ἀναβήσεσθε καὶ οὐ πολεμήσεσθε πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν· ἀποστρέφετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ, ὅτι παρ' ἐμοῦ ἐγένετο τὸ ρῆμα τοῦτο. καὶ ἐπήκουσαν τοῦ λόγου Κυρίου καὶ ἀπεστράφησαν τοῦ μὴ πορευθῆναι ἐπὶ Ἱεροβοάμ.
5 So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.
5 καὶ κατῴκησε Ροβοὰμ εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε πόλεις τειχήρεις ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ.
6 And he built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,
6 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε τὴν Βηθλεὲμ καὶ Αἰτὰν καὶ Θεκωὲ
7 Beth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,
7 καὶ Βαιθσουρὰ καὶ τὴν Σοχὼθ καὶ τὴν Ὀδολλὰμ
8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,
8 καὶ τὴν Γὲθ καὶ τὴν Μαρισὰν καὶ τὴν Ζὶφ
9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,
9 καὶ τὴν Ἀδωραὶμ καὶ Λαχίς, καὶ τὴν Ἀζηκὰ
10 Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, fortified cities.
10 καὶ τὴν Σαραὰ καὶ τὴν Αἰλὼμ καὶ τὴν Χεβρών, ἥ ἐστι τοῦ Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμίν, πόλεις τειχήρεις.
11 And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.
11 καὶ ὠχύρωσεν αὐτὰς τείχεσι καὶ ἔδωκεν ἐν αὐταῖς ἡγουμένους καὶ παραθέσεις βρωμάτων, ἔλαιον καὶ οἶνον,
12 Also in every city he put shields and spears, and made them very strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
12 κατὰ πόλιν καὶ κατὰ πόλιν θυρεοὺς καὶ δόρατα, καὶ κατίσχυσεν αὐτὰς εἰς πλῆθος σφόδρα· καὶ ἦσαν αὐτῷ Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμίν.
13 And from all their territories the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel took their stand with him.
13 καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται, οἳ ἦσαν ἐν παντὶ Ἰσραὴλ συνήχθησαν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐκ πάντων τῶν ὁρίων·
14 For the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the LORD.
14 ὅτι ἐγκατέλιπον οἱ Λευῖται τὰ σκηνώματα τῆς κατασχέσεως αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν πρὸς Ἰούδα εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, ὅτι ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς Ἱεροβοὰμ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ μὴ λειτουργεῖν Κυρίῳ
15 Then he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.
15 καὶ κατέστησεν ἑαυτῷ ἱερεῖς τῶν ὑψηλῶν καὶ τοῖς εἰδώλοις καὶ τοῖς ματαίοις καὶ τοῖς μόσχοις, ἃ ἐποίησεν Ἱεροβοάμ,
16 And after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heart to seek the LORD God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD God of their fathers.
16 καὶ ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ, οἳ ἔδωκαν καρδίαν αὐτῶν τοῦ ζητῆσαι Κύριον Θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ θῦσαι Κυρίῳ Θεῷ τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν
17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.
17 καὶ κατίσχυσαν τὴν βασιλείαν Ἰούδα καὶ κατίσχυσαν Ροβοὰμ τὸν τοῦ Σαλωμὼν εἰς ἔτη τρία, ὅτι ἐπορεύθη ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς Δαυὶδ καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἔτη τρία.
18 Then Rehoboam took for himself as wife Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliah the son of Jesse.
18 καὶ ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῷ Ροβοὰμ γυναῖκα τὴν Μολλὰθ θυγατέρα Ἱεριμοὺθ υἱοῦ Δαυὶδ καὶ Ἀβιγαίαν θυγατέρα Ἑλιὰβ τοῦ Ἰεσσαί,
19 And she bore him children: Jeush, Shamariah, and Zaham.
19 καὶ ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ υἱοὺς τὸν Ἰαοὺς καὶ τὸν Σαμαρίαν καὶ τὸν Ζαάμ.
20 After her he took Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.
20 καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῷ τὴν Μααχὰ θυγατέρα Ἀβεσσαλώμ, καὶ ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ τὸν Ἀβιὰ καὶ τὸν Ἰετθὶ καὶ τὸν Ζηζὰ καὶ τὸν Σαλημώθ.
21 Now Rehoboam loved Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
21 καὶ ἠγάπησε Ροβοὰμ τὴν Μααχὰ θυγατέρα Ἀβεσσαλὼμ ὑπὲρ πάσας τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς παλλακὰς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι γυναῖκας δεκαοκτὼ εἶχε καὶ παλλακὰς τριάκοντα· καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς εἴκοσι καὶ ὀκτὼ καὶ θυγατέρας ἑξήκοντα.
22 And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maachah as chief, to be leader among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.
22 καὶ κατέστησεν εἰς ἄρχοντα Ἀβιὰ τὸν τῆς Μααχὰ εἰς ἡγούμενον ἐν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι βασιλεῦσαι διενοεῖτο αὐτόν·
23 He dealt wisely, and dispersed some of his sons throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance. He also sought many wives for them.
23 καὶ ηὐξήθη παρὰ πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ὁρίοις Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμὶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς πόλεσι ταῖς ὀχυραῖς καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐταῖς τροφὰς πλῆθος πολὺ καὶ ᾐτήσατο πλῆθος γυναικῶν.
