Simon was the name of the foremost of the Apostles, who was called by the work of the apostles, but after Andrew his brother he followed Christ and was numbered with him in the choir of the twelve Apostles. Under the Lord the name Peter was also given to him, when in Caesarea Philippi, at the Lord's untimely questioning, he proclaimed the correct faith and confession about himself, which would become the rock on which the Church would be built. Peter's father is named in some Gospels as Jonah, and in others as John, and his father lived either near Lake Gennesaret or Bethsaida, although he is presented as a resident of Capernaum, from which it appears that his wife was from, and consequently in this city, most likely, Peter settled after her marriage.
From the very beginning, Peter occupied a leading position in the circle of the Apostles, always first among the disciples and mentioned in the lists of the Gospels, but also, after the two sons of Zebedee, forming the closest circle of the Apostles around Jesus. Having an impetuous character, he quickly fell, only to fall again, losing his courage for a moment. A wonderful type of Galileo appears in him, and under the change of this character he hid sincerity and warm devotion to the Teacher, which manifested themselves in the year after Pentecost with strength and stability. According to tradition, Peter, having come to Rome, most likely during the years that Paul was also imprisoned there, bore witness to Nero in the same year as Paul.
Of the two Catholic Epistles of the holy Peter, the first is addressed to the faithful of "Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, Bithynia", from which it has been concluded as probable that in Asia Minor, apart from the Churches founded by Paul, there were other Churches founded either by Peter himself or by his collaborators. This one was written from Babylon, as appears from the epistles sent at the end by the Church "co-elected in Babylon", and by this more tropical name Peter in all probability means Rome, from the co-elected Church to which he sends the epistles. The time of writing of this first letter is most likely the interval between Paul's first release from prison and the proclamation of persecution against Christians by Nero, that is, between 60 and 64 AD.
And the second epistle is attested by this preface as having been written by Peter, and was sent to the same Christians to whom the first epistle was addressed, shortly before the death of Peter, that is, between 64 and 66 AD.

2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
5 τοὺς ἐν δυνάμει Θεοῦ φρουρουμένους διὰ πίστεως εἰς σωτηρίαν ἑτοίμην ἀποκαλυφθῆναι ἐν καιρῷ ἐσχάτῳ·
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,
6 ἐν ᾧ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὀλίγον ἄρτι, εἰ δέον ἐστί, λυπηθέντες ἐν ποικίλοις πειρασμοῖς,
7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
7 ἵνα τὸ δοκίμιον ὑμῶν τῆς πίστεως πολυτιμότερον χρυσίου τοῦ ἀπολλυμένου διὰ πυρὸς δέ δοκιμαζομένου εὑρεθῇ εἰς ἔπαινον καὶ τιμὴν καὶ δόξαν ἐν ἀποκαλύψει Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,
8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
8 ὃν οὐκ εἰδότες ἀγαπᾶτε, εἰς ὃν ἄρτι μὴ ὁρῶντες, πιστεύοντες δὲ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε χαρᾷ ἀνεκλαλήτῳ καὶ δεδοξασμένῃ,
9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.
9 κομιζόμενοι τὸ τέλος τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν, σωτηρίαν ψυχῶν.
10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
10 περὶ ἧς σωτηρίας ἐξεζήτησαν καὶ ἐξηρεύνησαν προφῆται οἱ περὶ τῆς εἰς ὑμᾶς χάριτος προφητεύσαντες,
11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
11 ἐρευνῶντες εἰς τίνα ἢ ποῖον καιρὸν ἐδήλου τὸ ἐν αὐτοῖς Πνεῦμα Χριστοῦ προμαρτυρόμενον τὰ εἰς Χριστὸν παθήματα καὶ τὰς μετὰ ταῦτα δόξας·
12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.
12 οἷς ἀπεκαλύφθη ὅτι οὐχ ἑαυτοῖς, ὑμῖν δὲ διηκόνουν αὐτά, ἃ νῦν ἀνηγγέλη ὑμῖν διὰ τῶν εὐαγγελισαμένων ὑμᾶς ἐν Πνεύματι Ἁγίῳ ἀποσταλέντι ἀπ' οὐρανοῦ, εἰς ἃ ἐπιθυμοῦσιν ἄγγελοι παρακύψαι.
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
13 Διὸ ἀναζωσάμενοι τὰς ὀσφύας τῆς διανοίας ὑμῶν, νήφοντες, τελείως ἐλπίσατε ἐπὶ τὴν φερομένην ὑμῖν χάριν ἐν ἀποκαλύψει Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,
14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
14 ὡς τέκνα ὑπακοῆς μὴ συσχηματιζόμενοι ταῖς πρότερον ἐν τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν ἐπιθυμίαις,
15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
15 ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὸν καλέσαντα ὑμᾶς ἅγιον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἅγιοι ἐν πάσῃ ἀναστροφῇ γενήθητε,
16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
16 διότι γέγραπται· ἅγιοι γίνεσθε, ὅτι ἐγὼ ἅγιός εἰμι.
17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;
17 καὶ εἰ πατέρα ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸν ἀπροσωπολήπτως κρίνοντα κατὰ τὸ ἑκάστου ἔργον, ἐν φόβῳ τὸν τῆς παροικίας ὑμῶν χρόνον ἀναστράφητε,
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
18 εἰδότες ὅτι οὐ φθαρτοῖς, ἀργυρίῳ ἢ χρυσίῳ, ἐλυτρώθητε ἐκ τῆς ματαίας ὑμῶν ἀναστροφῆς πατροπαραδότου,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
19 ἀλλὰ τιμίῳ αἵματι ὡς ἀμνοῦ ἀμώμου καὶ ἀσπίλου Χριστοῦ,
20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you
20 προεγνωσμένου μὲν πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου, φανερωθέντος δὲ ἐπ' ἐσχάτων τῶν χρόνων δι' ὑμᾶς
21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
21 τοὺς δι' αὐτοῦ πιστεύοντας εἰς Θεὸν τὸν ἐγείραντα αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν καὶ δόξαν αὐτῷ δόντα, ὥστε τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐλπίδα εἶναι εἰς Θεόν.
22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
22 Τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν ἡγνικότες ἐν τῇ ὑπακοῇ τῆς ἀληθείας διὰ Πνεύματος εἰς φιλαδελφίαν ἀνυπόκριτον, ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας ἀλλήλους ἀγαπήσατε ἐκτενῶς,
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
23 ἀναγεγεννημένοι οὐκ ἐκ σπορᾶς φθαρτῆς, ἀλλὰ ἀφθάρτου, διὰ λόγου ζῶντος Θεοῦ καὶ μένοντος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα·
24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away,
24 διότι πᾶσα σὰρξ ὡς χόρτος, καὶ πᾶσα δόξα ἀνθρώπου ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου· ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος, καὶ τὸ ἄνθος αὐτοῦ ἐξέπεσε·
25 But the word of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.
25 τὸ δὲ ρῆμα Κυρίου μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. τοῦτο δέ ἐστι τὸ ρῆμα τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν εἰς ὑμᾶς.
