New Testament

Colassa was a notable city of Phrygia, situated not far from Laodicea and Hierapolis, as is inferred from Colassians 4:13, where all three of these cities are mentioned together. It is already buried in ruins and is mentioned thanks to this letter, which was sent to the Church that was then flourishing in it.
The apostle Paul appears not to have visited Colossae in person (cf. chap. 2:1) and he did not establish the Church there himself, but Epaphras, who came from that city, did (cf. chap. 1:7-9 and 4:12). However, he showed great interest in it, as is evident from this letter, which he sent to the Christians in Colossae, to protect them from false teachers who sought to lure them into a form of angelic religion and into ascetic excesses of abstinence from certain foods and the observance of certain days.
The Apostle received information about these things from Epaphras, who came to meet the Apostle when he was imprisoned in Rome during his first imprisonment. Consequently, this letter was written from Rome around 63 AD.
