New Testament

'The Acts of the Apostles,' or simply 'Acts of the Apostles,' is the book in which many of the deeds of the holy Apostles for the founding and expansion of the Church are recorded. The Acts is not a history of the work of all the Apostles. It merely refers in general terms to the actions of the two leading Apostles, Peter and Paul, especially the latter.
The author of the Acts of the Apostles is the evangelist Luke, just as he wrote the Gospel, the 'first account,' as he calls it, for the sake of a distinguished person, Theophilus, whom he therefore calls 'most excellent Theophilus'; in the same way, he composed the Acts of the Apostles for the sake of the same person, that is, Theophilus. The Acts form a continuation of the third Gospel.
Thus, after the Gospel recounted the life, death, and Resurrection of the Lord, the Acts of the Apostles recount how the Church was founded on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem and how it subsequently spread throughout Palestine and other pagan nations, even reaching Rome.
The 'Acts of the Apostles' were written after the Gospel, most likely before 70 AD, because they do not mention anything at all about the martyrdom of the two leading Apostles, Peter and Paul, which occurred in the year 64 AD.
